::One year of Windfall Dolls::

Today we looked back on the past year.  We looked back at all of the dolls that we have made. We looked back on all of the happy faces and smiled.

Remembering the catch in our breath as each one came to life before our very eyes.

Remembering the hand picked tissue paper and yarn or fabric that we gently wrapped them in on their voyages to their new families.

Remembering the kisses that we placed on those chubby cheeks at the last minute of goodbye.

Remembering each one for how special they were and how happy they made some little ones.

One year ago TOMORROW, we decided to dedicate a single year to giving away our dolls to deserving little ones.
One year ago we hit publish and watched with baited breath as readers from far and near left little lovely comments telling us about their deserving little one.

One year ago, as melodramatic as it sounds...our lives changed.  For the better.

And so, today not only marks the end of a year of giving away our Windfall Dolls.

It marks the beginning of a SECOND year of giving away our dolls.

That's right!  We had only planned on doing this for a single year, but the response to this site and the love that we have received has been nothing if not overwhelming.

Enjoying the time together. Stitching and laughing and listening to our little boys playing in another room.  Happiness in the rhythm of the needles going in and out of fabric.  The crochet hooks creating the tiniest of caps for some little dolls.

How could we stop now?

We can't.

And so, we leave you with a preview of some of the giveaway goodness to come.  There is going to be more interviews with fellow doll makers, more tutorials, and MORE giveaways!

Thank you for your love and support.
We love you all right back!

XOXO, Julia and Laura (and of course, Emelia too!)

Fellow Doll Maker Spotlight :: Annadoll's House

There are so many gorgeous Waldorf dolls out there. All that you have to do is do a search through Etsy for "Waldorf doll" and you are inundated with thousand and thousands of hits. And they are all stunning and unique and precious. SO many beautifully crafted dolls by some unbelievably gifted artists.
Many of these doll makers have inspired us in our own doll creating.

We realized that not all mamas are able to sew for their little ones, and we only have so many dolls to give away here at Windfall Dolls.  Many mamas are looking for a high quality, handmade doll to gift their loved ones with.

That is where the Doll Maker Spotlight comes into play.

Recently, we were thinking of ways to support our fellow doll makers. We thought that it might be fun to invite other doll makers to introduce their shops and goods to those families who visit our site.

So, if you are are looking to buy a beautifully handmade doll we welcome you to stop by over the next few months while we spotlight several of these talented independent artists as they share their stories and their love of doll making.

::November Windfall Dolls Giveaway :: Meet Melody, a doll for a Hurricane Sandy Family

Upon hearing of the devastation along the East Coast during the past few weeks after Hurricane Sandy's wake, and all of the millions of people affected and displaced from their homes, possibly never to come back we knew we had to make a contribution.

With the Holidays just around the corner we would like to offer up a special gift. We have specially made one of our larger Windfall Dolls just for this giveaway! We usually save our larger dolls for the  seasonal giveaways, but we think this little lady would make some hurricane affected families Holiday extra special.

::Melody:: Meaning music or song.

::A bit about Melody::

Melody is one of our more Ethnic looking dolls. She has a bit deeper colored skin, smooth as honey and equally as warm.

She also has a slight almond shape to her chocolatey brown eyes.  They have  a bit of a sparkle and a wink to them don't you think?

 Her lips are small and thin.  She loves loves loves to sing! She has the sweetest voice you could ever imagine~just the hint of a crack at the high notes, and she always bobs her head to the music.  Music as someone once said is the soundtrack to our lives~Melody will make yours super happy and sweet with her melodies!  Of course you will have to imagine her little voice, but if you sing along with her she will chime right in!

:: The details::

Melody is made using our Waldorf Inspired Pattern... out of interlock, stuffing and wool.

Her dress is handmade as are the rest of her clothes, and one of her favorites! It is made using our dress pattern, but with a 2 inch added flounce.  A special request by Melody, since it makes it super special when she twirls and spins to the music. Did we mention she likes to twirl, well the girl can twirl!

The dress looks smashing by itself, but then again Melody makes anything look cute! As something warm for the cooler months we made her some booties and a matching tunic vest. They are custom made for her out of a cotton blend, and so soft to the touch! When her hands aren't busy tapping to the music, they are rubbing her cute little belly and twisting her thumbs in the gaps in between the crochet stitches.

She loves her booties because she slides along her hardwood floor so easily while spinning since they are so slippery!

 Melody has the most thick, amazing hair! A mix of brown shades with some black highlights that accent her coloring, a true mix of variegated thick thin wool yarn.  Also made using our pattern here

It can be worn down, or up, tied with a bow of course. Especially necessary to keep her hair tidy whilst she dances!

Melody is a special girl~like all of the Windfall Dolls, and we hope you like her too!

This giveaway is ONLY open to people who have been displaced, or largely effected by Hurricane Sandy.

If you are interested in having Melody join your family, We ask that you leave us a short description of who this doll will go to, and how she will brighten your Holidays.  A link to a blog, or other information is always welcome. We appreciate your comments also, even if you can't enter the contest!
Be sure to leave your email address in your comment so that we can contact you!
Since we are not sure how many of our followers were effected by the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, please do us a favor and spread the word so we can reach as many victims as possible to get Melody to a wonderful home!

Also, please become a follower of this blog, and leave a comment at the end of this post, and if you are so inclined, like our shop on Etsy or our Facebook Page

******
It saddens us to mention this, but we just want to be clear.  Please do not comment if you are planning on selling this doll.  She is meant to go to a family who will appreciate her.  It would break our hearts if she was given to someone with poor intentions.
